The Underwater Environmental science Council (UEC) has successfully completed a study on the aquatic biodiversity of the Taean Duung Wetland—a precious ecological asset and a registered Ramsar wetland in Korea.
This survey was conducted through the pro-bono contributions and volunteer efforts of UEC members, with the goal of assessing the health of the wetland’s unique aquatic ecosystem and highlighting its conservation value. The team conducted a detailed exploration of the underwater environment, analyzing the distribution of aquatic organisms and juvenile fish, as well as shifts in the aquatic ecosystem.
The final research report has been officially submitted to the Geum River Basin Environmental Office (Daejeon). The office expressed deep appreciation for the voluntary service and professional expertise contributed by the organization, noting that the report will serve as a valuable resource for the conservation and management policies of the Duung Wetland ecosystem.
This research was made possible by the passionate dedication of UEC members Oh Seong-gyun, Ryu Seok-min, Lee Jae-won, Lee Tae-heon, and Bae Hyun-seok, who remained committed to the project despite challenging field conditions. We extend our sincere gratitude to these five individuals for taking the initiative to protect our aquatic ecosystems. We also express our deep thanks to the Department of Marine Environmental Science at Chungnam National University and Dr. Kim Byung-jik from Jeju National University for their contributions, which significantly enhanced the professional quality of the report.
Moving forward, the Underwater Environment Science Council (UEC) will continue to leverage its specialized underwater research capabilities to conduct exploration and volunteer work aimed at preserving the health of our marine and inland aquatic ecosystems.
We look forward to your continued interest and support. Thank you.
